Personal data collected via this website will only be used for the stated purposes within the fair processing notice below. No personal data will be passed to any third party without the consent of the person concerned.

Consent and Choice

If you choose not to register or not to provide personal information, you may still visit the Landlord Accreditation Wales website (www.welshlandlords.org.uk) but you will not be able to access the restricted areas available to registered users.

General Rules relating to the Landlord Accreditation Wales Scheme:

  1. The scheme operator reserves the right at any time to amend the content of the Scheme or its operation subject to consultation with the relevant parties.
  2. Adoption of the LAW Scheme and compliance or non-compliance with the provisions of the scheme do not affect the statutory rights of people seeking housing.
  3. Members of the scheme agree to comply with and accept that amendments to the content and or operation of the scheme can be made by the scheme operator subject to consultation with the relevant parties, whereupon members of the scheme will be notified of any changes.
  4. The scheme operator makes neither representation nor warrants and no warranty shall be implied that the scheme operator has inspected, approved or in any way endorsed any particular property or owner.
  5. The scheme operator shall not be liable to any person or persons for any information contained in the scheme or supplemental document or reliance upon it or for any loss, damage or injury or any disputes, proceedings or claims by or between any person or persons (and whether or not including or against the scheme operator) whatsoever or howsoever arising from any information herein contained or any supplemental document.

Data Protection Act 1998 – Fair Processing Notice

The collection of personal information:

This application is for enrolment on the Landlord Accreditation Scheme. Your application includes details which are personal information for the purposes of the Data Protection Act 1998. This notice tells you how we will look after that information and what we may do with it.

What the personal information will be used for:

The personal information collected through this application will be used for making a decision on your application for the accreditation scheme, and this could include carrying out individual, director and company checks. Information you provide, or we hold, will be used to administer and maintain your accreditation. In addition it may be used by us or our partners to:

  1. Prevent fraud, identify you and help validate your declarations. Any search we do to assess this application involves checking the details you supply against other databases Local Authorities have access to. This includes information from the Electoral Register and fraud prevention agencies. A record is kept of this search. This information may be used for the assessment and review of your application, for debt tracing, and the prevention of money laundering. We may pass information to organisations involved in fraud prevention, to protect the Council and other Local Authorities from theft and fraud. If you give us false or inaccurate information and we suspect fraud, we will record this and share this information with other organisations
  2. Help run, and seek your views on how we run, the scheme
  3. Inform you about any changes to the scheme or any additional development courses, services or events provided by the scheme, or its partners.
  4. Inform you about any services, any schemes, events etc. provided by the Partnership.
  5. Carry out marketing, analysis and reviews on the operation of the scheme.
  6. Seek your views on issues relevant to private landlords.
  7. Provide you with changes to the reference manual and information about updates to statute or case law.

Who will your personal information be shared with:

This scheme is administered by Cardiff Council on behalf of the Partnership, and as the Data Controller Cardiff Council will share/verify your personal information with the signatory partners of the scheme (the 22 Local Authorities in Wales), for the purposes of ensuring the validity of the application to the Landlord Accreditation Wales scheme, and for any reason to ensure that Local Authorities are able to successfully carry out their functions under the Housing Act 2004 or any other statutory functions associated with private rented accommodation.

All information provided will be treated in confidence and in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. It will only be used for the purposes of the Landlord Accreditation Wales Scheme, however on occasions the Council may also share your personal data with regulatory bodies such as HM Revenue and Customs, or the Police, for the purpose of detecting and preventing fraud. Such sharing will be in accordance with protocols agreed for that purpose to ensure that the personal information remains accurate and secure.
